Blogging 101

Wow!  It's a post that doesn't start off Oh Happy Day Part Number Something!  Try to contain your excitement!  I'm kind of excited to not be writing posts anymore, but it was so fun to actually sit down and look over ALL of the MANY photos we have from that wonderful day.  While I enjoyed it, I'm so glad to be able to move on!  It really was fun being able to recap it, and I'm glad {most} of y'all enjoyed it, but it's time to move on!

I feel like I am SO behind on the blog now!  I was behind on it before I started the recap, but I REALLY feel behind now!  There is so much to catch you up on in the lives of the Adams!  We've done lots of things in the past few weeks that I don't want you to miss out on any of it!  However, today, after returning home from vacation, I have to take care of necessary things to become a resident of Tennessee like drivers license and car tag.  But don't worry, I'll be keeping the Mstate logo on the car tag!  You can imagine how fun this ORDEAL will be.  Do you remember going to the DMV or the Tax Assessors office?  The lines are crazy long, and I'm quadruple checking to make sure I have EVERY document I could possibly need.  So because of that, I don't have the time I feel that I need to devout to writing posts about our lives and uploading photos.  But since the blog has been around for a little over a year now, I wanted to share with you some of the things I've learned about blogging in the past year.  Please don't tune them out if you don't have a blog.  Hopefully it will encourage you to start one!  They are in random order.

1. Put your blog on Facebook

Yes, I can't believe I'm admitting this.  But, if you don't put your blog on facebook, there will be no one who reads it.  No one!  Even the people that follow you won't click on the link and read it.  I've tried countless times to quit putting it on facebook, but it just depresses me when no one reads.  So, if you are one of the random people that reads it from facebook {I know I have some creepers}, why don't you comment or follow? K?

2. Take lots of photos.

If you're going to have a good blog, you're going to need photos.  No one wants to read a blog.  They want to see photos of your life.  Now, when we started this journey, I was AWFUL at taking pictures.  Yes, I have to admit, I've gotten so much better about taking my camera everywhere and documenting our life which actually has been wonderful because there are lots of photos because of it. Which is fantastic for the scrapbooker in me!  I'm not near as shy as I used to be about asking people to take our photos, and I'm so glad we actually have something to document our married life with.

3. Expecting your husband to write blog posts is unrealistic.

Sad, I know.  However, you've been warned. If you're unmarried, disregard.  If you are thinking about starting a blog with the two of you, it ain't gonna happen.  I shouldn't have named my blog davidandsaraadams.  I should have made it saraadamstheoneandonly.  Or something like that.  Out of a year, David has written one post.  ONE.  And it was because I forced him to.  And he didn't even post it to facebook so no one read it.  So, since you missed his ONE blog post, here's is the link to it.

4. Titles are hard to come up with, but make the difference in who reads your blog

Take my word for it.  While they are hard to come up with, they sure do make a world of difference on whether or not people will actually read your post.  Take these two for instance... Home Sweet Home which has 209 page views to date or something like Coupon Clipping which doesn't even show up in the top anymore.  If you want people to read it, you better give them something good!

5. Crazy people from all of the country read blogs.

Yep, this freaks me out!  Note that we have 35 people in Slovenia reading.  12 in India.  Would the "real Slim Shady please stand up?"

6. Captain Rodney's is often searched for (do search)

Yes, sad but true.  I think half of the people that search for and find our blog are actually on the hunt for the Captain Rodney's recipe.  If that is you at this very moment, please direct yourself to the recipe here.

So those are just a few of the things I've learned since starting this endeavor.  It's awesome to be able to have this to be able to recount where we've been the past year!  Hopefully, I've inspired you to write a blog.  Even if you think there is nothing to put out there, I promise that there is SOMETHING that someone wants to read.  And if they don't, it will be good for you to have.  It's the only journal I've ever been good at!

That being said, I've also learned a lot from other people as well.  A few of my friends have labeled certain days with certain things.  So for that reason, I'm going to start doing that as well!  Be on the lookout for Tasty Tuesday {stolen straight from my Cuz Molly @ Miscellaneous Molly -- it's okay, I warned her ahead of time} and Friday Finds {not sure what exactly this will be yet. Guess we'll know Friday!}  Hope you'll make sure not to miss those days or any days!

  1. I completely agree about the husbands not writing. Chris has not done one blog yet! I am doing good if he even reads what I post!! But I dont think many people read mine at all, but I agree that it is the best journal I have ever kept either!
