Happy Birthday Lacey Pup

A special day has come and gone in the Adams household.  Our Lacey dog celebrated her 7th birthday today (Monday, June 6th).  However, David and I held a family birthday party for her on Sunday to celebrate her special day!

A few fun things to note about Lacey.

1. She came to live with us on January 10th.  It was a rainy/icy day, and she was instantly the most wonderful addition to our home.

2. She doesn't really care to be outside.

3. We've visited the vet 5 times since she came to live with us (rabies shot, thyroid blood work, spay, removing stitches, and DHPP vaccine).  Her vet loves us, and Lacey likes to go because there are lots of people there who pet her.

4. By dog standards, this means she's a "senior" now.  Wonder if we take her to Belk if they'll give us a "senior discount?"  I've always wanted that discount!

5. Lacey loves stuffed animal toys...especially if they have tails

6. Greenies are her favorite things in the world

7. She loves to sleep in the bed!

Those are just seven interesting facts about Lacey.  Here's a recap of her "special" day for y'all.

It started out with me researching Dog Birthday Cakes.  Why buy an expensive one when you can simply make a great one!  This is the recipe I found with the link:

1 cup whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 banana, mashed (about 1/2 cup)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/3 cup honey
1 egg
Mix flour and baking soda. Add remaining ingredients and mix together. Pour into greased 8″ (I used 9″) round cake pan and bake at 350 degree F for 20 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool. Puree cottage cheese or fat free cream cheese for icing.
I of course made an alteration.  Rather than use cottage cheese or cream cheese for the icing, I mixed vanilla, peanut butter, and milk.  It was very spreadable and made for the perfect icing.  I started out taking photos of making the cake in case any of you wanted to recreate it, and I of course forgot to take pics of some steps.
Start with the flour and baking soda:

Add other ingredients and blend well.  (No pic).  Pour into cake pan and bake.  Cool on stove.

I of course had to cut out a bone shape using my bone cookie cutter.

And what would a birthday party be without candles?

And without birthday girl hats?

And what would a blog be without a rotated to the side photo on blogger?  (for those of you who are new...google blogger ALWAYS rotates my photos!)

David was a good sport and wore a hat with Lacey while we sang "Happy Birthday"

Lacey was less than interested

However, when we gave her a piece, she gobbled it up!  Actually she tried to attack it all in one bite.  I actually felt like we had a one year old who was digging her face in a "smash" cake form a first birthday party!  It was unreal, and unlike I'd ever seen her act!

David was less than thrilled about celebrating the dogs birthday in case you were wondering or thinking about giving him a hard time.  This was entirely MY idea, and I'm just thankful he played along!

One of Lacey's birthday presents!  It's a baby elephant, and it of course has a tail for lots of excitement in our home!

Rotated photo, but she was way more interested in licking the peanut butter out of her mouth!

Finally excited about her toy and playing with it!

Her most favorite birthday present!!!  GRRREEEEEEEEENNNNIIIIEEESSSSS!!!  Greenies. Go buy them for your dog. He/she will love you!  Our dog gets one nightly, but would eat ten in one day if we let her!

We're so glad Lacey is our puppy!  She's so much fun, and we can't believe she gets to be a part of our family!  Best. Dog. Ever!

  2. Oh my gosh... Lacey in her hat is TOO CUTE! It's like she's saying, "Mom... do I really have to wear this?" hahaha {and I think David was thinking the same thing!}

  3. Oh my gosh, that's so cute! You don't know me at all, my name is Stephanie Daniel, recent grad of UGA to give you an idea of age/place...but I have a sheltie that I call Lacey Pup, and a variation of different nicknames...my husband makes fun of me because he says she's no longer a pup (since she turns 7 this November)...so I thought, to be funny, I would find a dog that looks exactly like Lacey, which yours does, that's also nicknamed Lacey Pup. lol So I googled it and this popped up! Misson accomplished. My husband will get a kick out of it. I also saw you have a wedding tab, (I've been obsessed with weddings ever since I got married last year), and saw that you were married on June 19th 2010. I was married on June 20th 2010. SO I just had to comment...even though if I were on your end I would probably be like who in the heck is this random person posting on my blog. I'm not stalking you I promise! lol The funny thing is, I was racking my brain trying to think of how I could celebrate Lacey's birthday and you posted a cake recipe! For dogs. That's so cool. I'm pretty obsessed with my dog, and if yours is anything like mine, I bet you're pretty obsessed too. lol I think I might try the recipe...I love how you shaped it into a bone. But anyways...Life's coincidences. This one was too ironic not to share. Thanks :)Btw~love the design of your blog. Have a blessed week!
